Urgent care is medical care that is available seven days a week and outside of regular office hours to replace the services of a primary care doctor when she is not available or to treat urgent medical conditions that aren’t serious enough to require a trip to the emergency room. The doctors at the Gilroy Family Medical Group provide care and treatments for patients to protect and maintain their health and well-being in a timely and efficient manner.
Urgent care is available for patients experiencing any number of ailments or injuries that need prompt treatment. Many parents bring their children to urgent care when an illness and fever come on suddenly or outside of normal doctors’ office hours. Urgent care is also suitable to treat injuries such as sprains, tears, and minor fractures as well as conditions like the flu, asthma attacks, cuts that need stitches, urinary tract infections, or skin rashes or infections. If the doctor finds that a patient’s condition is more serious or requires specialized treatments not available at the urgent care center, the patient will be sent to an emergency room for more specialized treatment.
While both urgent care and emergency care indicate a need for prompt or immediate treatment, urgent care is designed to replace the services of your normal doctor when he or she is not available. Emergency rooms provide 24-hour medical care for complex or critical medical needs. If you experience any of the following symptoms, you should go to the emergency room:
